Three Marine Corps generals are being nominated for promotion, reappointment and reassignment, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.
Lt. Gen. Terry Robling, deputy commandant for aviation at Marine Corps Headquarters, is to be re-appointed to his current rank and assigned as commanding general, Marine Corps Forces Pacific, Fleet Marine Forces Pacific, and commander of Marine Corps Bases Pacific, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Slated to take Robling's place at the Pentagon will be Lt. Gen. Robert Schmidle Jr., a career aviator who is currently deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command at Fort Meade, Md.
Maj. Gen. Jon Davis, commander of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., will be nominated for promotion to three-star general and assigned to replace Schmidle at Cyber Command.
Though the Marine Corps has not yet announced a replacement for Davis at 2nd MAW, the expectation is that it will be 2nd MAW's current assistant wing commander, Maj. Gen. Glenn Walters, according to the 2012 general officer slate obtained by Marine Corps Times earlier this year.
Brig. Gen. Gary Thomas, assistant deputy commandant for aviation at the Pentagon, will take Walters' place at 2nd MAW, according to the slate.
