Marine Corps Times just added a bunch of new tools and information to our website to help you plan your future, no matter what you want to do next.

Angling for that next rank and wondering when selections will be made? Got it.

Ready to hit the books, but you're not sure how much academic support your favorite college provides? Got it.

Polishing your résumé but don't know if you're wording it right for the private sector? Got it.

Thinking about starting a fast-food franchise and trying to figure out if the chicken joint, the pizza place or the sub shop would give you the best perks for being a vet? We've got that, too. (It's the chicken joint.)

All the news, information and unique career and education resources that you've come to expect from us — along with some great new tools — can easily be found on the revamped

Check out the "Marine Corps Careers," "Jobs" and "Education" links on the gray bar just below the Marine Corps Times logo.

Here are some things you can do:

Determine your eligibility for a 15-year retirement. Marine Corps brass recently announced two programs to encourage troops to retire early: Temporary Early Retirement Authority and Voluntary Separation of Pay. The catch is that only some military occupational specialties are eligible. Find out if yours is among them by clicking "Marine Careers" and then following the "15-Year Retirements" link in the middle of the page. The "Marine Careers" section also lists enlisted and officer promotions, selection board schedules and related news.

Match your military expertise with civilian jobs. In collaboration with, we've developed a tool that recommends private-sector careers based on what you've done in uniform. Beyond suggesting a general vocation, the tool will give you thousands of job listings that employers want to fill now. To find the tool, click the "Jobs" link on the top of the page. Then just enter your military job code, or a job keyword.

Get tips on landing a job. Once you've found the listing for your dream job, how do you make your future employer realize that you're its dream candidate? We can help. Click on "Jobs" and look for the links on the left of your screen. Here you can find advice on how to make a quick pitch to an employer, what to wear to an interview and how to tweak your résumé, as well as the latest jobs news, including upcoming career fairs for veterans.

Figure out what degree you should pursue. Do you need a B.S. and years of postgraduate education to get on the right career path, or would a three-month certificate from your local community college do the trick? Should you get an MBA or an MFA? Click on "Education" and then explore the links on the left of the page to find all the tools.

See rankings of the most vet-friendly everything. In Military Times EDGE magazine, our Best for Vets surveys have for years ranked employers, franchises and several types of colleges on how accommodating they are to service members. You can find all of these surveys on our new website. Click on "Careers," "Jobs" or "Education" and you'll find links to our rankings on the right side of the page. While you're there, be sure to check out our brand new Best for Vets: Colleges survey, released just this week, which evaluated hundreds of schools.
