CHICAGO Vandals have struck the family home of an injured Marine visiting his southwestern Illinois relatives for the Christmas holidays.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the incident may have been a random act and not necessarily designed to target him.

Marine Lance Cpl. Chris Van Etten lost both of his legs in a June explosion in Afghanistan. He has been in rehab in California since then.

O'Fallon police Capt. Mark Berry said the vandalism included spray painted signs and raw eggs thrown at the site.

The incident was reported early Monday morning. Berry said there are no eye witnesses and no other available evidence.
