VANCOUVER, Wash. — A man who shot a suspected prowler in Vancouver appeared in Clark County Superior Court Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge.
Sean H. Doucette, a former Marine, was ordered held on $250,000 bail for a Feb. 12 arraignment.
The Columbian reports that Doucette returned home from his job about 4 a.m. Tuesday, heard a car alarm and attempted to detain a suspected car prowler.
Defense lawyer Steven Thayer said the man attacked Doucette, and he fired in self-defense.
Deputy Prosecutor Camara Banfield said a witness said the alleged prowler was attempting to leave when Doucette shot him four times. The 27-year-old served in Afghanistan and works as a security guard.
The dead man was identified as 19-year-old Iosif Dumitrash.
