KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii — Demolition will begin this week for the last Marine Corps Base Hawaii residential neighborhood to be rebuilt as part of a multiyear military housing renovation project.
Forest City Military Communities and the Department of the Navy will mark the moment Monday with a ceremonial demolition of a home in the base’s Ulupau neighborhood.
The rebuilt Ulupau neighborhood will include 218 new homes. Construction is expected to be finished by next April.
Forest City and the Navy formed a public-private partnership for the work. They began rebuilding homes at the Kaneohe Bay base in 2007.
