Chief Warrant Officer Lee James Williamson (Great Falls Tribune)
BROWNING, MONT. — The widow of an Army soldier says the Blackfeet tribal member died of complications from a protracted illness and not from an improvised explosive device as originally reported.
The tribe’s Veterans Affairs Office said in a statement Monday that Chief Warrant Officer Lee James Williamson died from a traumatic brain injury after his Humvee struck an IED.
Sherry Williamson said Tuesday that report was wrong and her husband died Friday in North Carolina of an illness that she did not specify.
Blackfeet tribal spokeswoman Ti Stalnaker said the tribe’s Veterans’ Affairs office received erroneous information about the cause of Williamson’s death.
The 44-year-old Williamson and his wife were based at Fort Bragg, where he is to be buried.
He joined the military after graduating from Fairfield High School in 1988.
