GILLETTE, WYO. — Wyoming relatives of one of the 19 firefighters killed in Arizona are raising money to help his widow.
Marcia and Bill Phillips of Gillette are the aunt and uncle of 25-year-old Billy Warneke. His widow, Roxanne, is expecting their first child in December.
The Phillipses have set up a fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Billy Warneke’s name and say donations will help Roxanne Warneke.
Warneke was a four-year Marine Corps veteran who served a tour in Iraq and had joined the Hotshot crew in April. Marcia Phillips told the Gillette News Record that her nephew wanted to be a firefighter since he was 6.
The couple will head to Arizona on Monday to attend Warneke’s private funeral service on Wednesday in Tucson.
