One sergeantís angry outburst after a fender bender has prompted Marine officials at Camp Pendleton, Calif., to publish new guidance on preventing road rage.

The incident, which was captured on video and posted online in April, occurred after the sergeantís car was rear-ended by another vehicle.

The Pendleton Marine was Sgt. Joshua Brightman, San Diego public radio reported. His expletive-laden tirade was recorded by the passenger in the other vehicle, a paralyzed female Marine according to an ABC News affiliate in southern California. Her brother ó and caregiver ó was driving at the time.

The two said the sergeantís behavior traumatized them, Gawker reported. The Marine was detained and cited for communicating a threat, according to media reports.

Camp Pendleton officials have released a list of tips to prevent similar situations from happening in the future. They caution those prone to road rage to identify triggers to violent behavior. The tips include:

■ Avoiding aggressive music while driving.

■ Staying off the road when upset.

Avoiding heavily trafficked areas or rush hour-driving.

■ Letting someone else drive.
