HARTFORD, CONN. — An aviation unit of the Connecticut Army National Guard is returning this weekend after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.

Some 60 soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 104th Aviation Regiment of Windsor Locks are expected to arrive Saturday afternoon at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Windsor Locks.

The unit uses Chinook helicopters to move supplies and personnel for the military.

It deployed previously to Afghanistan in 2003 and to Iraq in 2009.

The unit is led by Capt. Evan Lock of Southington.

The Connecticut National Guard now has more than 70 soldiers and airmen deployed in support of operations in Afghanistan.
