Military Times EDGE invited law enforcement agencies across the country to participate in our rigorous, 90-plus-question survey evaluating organizations on their military recruiting, service member-related policies, rules for reservists and departmental culture. Departments are listed alphabetically, with those that described the most accommodating environments indicated with stars. Not everything listed in the chart was used to evaluate agencies, and many items not listed in the chart were considered.
Hiring now indicates whether a department reported that it is currently hiring. Those without check marks may be planning to hire later.
Exam points indicates whether a department gives veterans extra points on entry exams, and if so, how many out of the total. For example, a department awarding vets 10 extra points on a 100-point exam would be listed as 10/100.
Military experience instead of certification indicates whether a department exempts veterans with particular types of military experience from having to obtain related civilian credentials.
Union indicates whether a department is unionized, and if so, with what union or unions.
