The destroyer Shoup’s 10-month deployment is set to wrap up Monday, when the ship returns to its home port of Naval Station Everett, Wash., according to a Pacific Fleet news release.

It won’t be the only West Coast homecoming that day: The destroyer Preble, which left San Diego seven months ago, is set to return Monday, according to a separate release. Preble served as the flagship for Destroyer Squadron 15 for more than four months and served as a member of both the George Washington and Nimitz carrier strike groups while in 7th Fleet.

Shoup’s trip lasted longer and went farther — after leaving Everett on Jan. 9, the destroyer accompanied Nimitz into the Red Sea in September as the Syria crisis loomed. Nimitz had been set to return upon the arrival of the carrier Harry S. Truman to the region, but both flattops remained there as part of a buildup of forces for a seemingly imminent strike on Syria that never took place.

As part of DESRON 23, Shoup participated in theater-security exercises and training with partner nations during the extended deployment, according to the release.

It also carried a detachment of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 75, the “Wolf Pack,” which was scheduled to return home to San Diego on Thursday.
