Two U.S. soldiers and a civilian were killed in Friday’s MC-12 crash near Baghram Airfield in eastern Afghanistan, according to a defense official in Afghanistan.

Enemy activity is not suspected in the crash, the official said today.

A NATO statement released Friday called the crash an “aircraft mishap,” but provided no details of the accident, and the names and nationalities of those killed were not released.

MC-12 aircraft are used for various duties, including embassy support, medical evacuation, as well as passenger and light cargo transport. Some have been fitted with video and signals intelligence sensors to perform surveillance missions in the war zone.

Four NATO troops have been killed in Afghanistan this year. One service member was killed in a suicide attack Jan. 4, also in eastern Afghanistan, and another Jan. 1.

On Dec. 17, enemy fire downed a UH-60 Black Hawk in Zabul in southern Afghanistan, killing five soldiers from Fort Riley, Kan., and a sixth based in Germany. A seventh soldier survived.
