COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — An Iraqi immigrant who came to the U.S. after helping American soldiers in his home country was convicted Tuesday of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman who was seriously injured in the attack.

Jasim Mohammed Hasin Ramadon, 21, was convicted of sexual assault but acquitted of assault, The Colorado Springs Gazette reported. He faces up to life in prison at his April 18 sentencing.

ďA Soldierís Promise,Ē a 2009 combat memoir by Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Hendrex, depicted Ramadon as a teenage hero, risking his life to provide information to U.S. soldiers.

Authorities said the woman suffered internal bleeding from the July 2012 attack. She told authorities she went to a manís apartment, where she was given lemonade and then passed out.

Four other Iraqi immigrants were also charged in the attack. They also came to the U.S. after helping American soldiers.

One was convicted of a sexual offense and sentenced to 16 years to life in prison. The others were convicted of misdemeanors after authorities said they lied to police.

Ramadonís attorney, Kim Chalmers, argued that the other four devised a story to blame the crime on Ramadon.
