The Army is investigating the death of a soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division.

Staff Sgt. Alton Jefferson, 36, was found unresponsive in his home early Tuesday in Hope Mills, N.C. He was later pronounced dead, according to information released by the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Airborne.

Jefferson, of Lancaster, Calif., was a military intelligence systems maintainer/integrator with D Company, 127th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

He joined the Army in October 2000, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne in February 2012.
