President Obama nominated 10 Marine colonels for promotion to brigadier general Wednesday, according to an announcement from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.

The colonels nominated for promotion include:

■ Col. Julian D. Alford, head of the Current Operations Branch of Plans, Policy and Operations at Headquarters Marine Corps.

■ Col. Norman L. Cooling, chief of staff for II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

■ Col. Karsten S. Heckl, military assistant to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus.

■ Col. William M. Jurney, executive officer to Gen. Joseph Dunford, commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

■ Col. Tracy W. King, commanding officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

■ Col. Michael E. Langley, senior adviser for the Afghan National Army’s 215th Corps, Regional Command (Southwest), Afghanistan.

■ Col. Christopher J. Mahoney, executive assistant to Lt. Gen. Glenn Walters, deputy commandant for programs and resources at Headquarters Marine Corps.

■ Col. Joseph F. Shrader, chief of staff for Tom Dee, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for expeditionary programs and logistics management.

■ Col. Austin E. Renforth, assigned to Marine Corps University in Quantico, Va.

■ Col. Paul J. Rock Jr., head of Command and Control Branch, Marine Corps Aviation, Headquarters Marine Corps.

The U.S. Senate must confirm all the nominations before the promotions are finalized.

The announcement did not indicate the next military assignments for the nominees.
