BISMARCK, N.D. A U.S. Marine Corps recruiter in North Dakota has pleaded not guilty to a felony arson charge.
The Bismarck Tribune reports 29-year-old Anthony DeGroot appeared on court Tuesday. He is accused of starting seven fires in the Armed Services Recruiting Office in Bismarck. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of providing false information to law enforcement.
Police have said a 911 caller on Dec. 26 reported seeing smoke at the recruiting office. The caller reported seeing a man exiting the building with duct tape around his face and wrist. The caller also told police the man was on the ground. Police later identified the man as DeGroot.
DeGroot was transported to a hospital and released after personnel found he had no apparent injuries.
The damage was estimated at $30,000.
