Verdicts released for January courts-martial

Continuing a policy that began in mid-2013, the Navy published the results of special and general courts-martial tried in January of this year — 21 verdicts in all.

The cases, by region:

Naval District Washington

■ At a special court-martial in Washington, D.C., IS2 Andrew Albies pleaded guilty to one specification of unauthorized absence and one specification of disobeying a general order. He pleaded not guilty to two additional specifications of unauthorized absence. On Jan. 16, a panel of members found him guilty of one specification of unauthorized absence and sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-1, the forfeiture of a half-month’s pay for six months, and confinement for 45 days.

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic

■ At a general court-martial in Norfolk, Va., DCFN Darius A. Rhodes was tried for forcible rape, false official statement and aggravated assault. On Jan. 9, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty to assault consummated by a battery. He was sentenced to reduction in rank to paygrade E-1, restriction for 60 days and hard labor without confinement for 30 days.

■ At a special court-martial in Norfolk, NDCS James C. Burger was tried for dereliction of duty. On Jan. 18, the panel of members returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-7.

Navy Region Southeast

■ At a general court-martial in Jacksonville, Fla., HN Shunterrence D. Trammell pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact. On Jan. 13, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to paygrade E-1 and confinement for 20 months.

■ At a special court-martial in Pensacola, Fla., EO3 Steven Tefft pleaded guilty to assault consummated by a battery. On Jan. 31, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a bad conduct discharge, reduction in rank to paygrade E-2 and restriction for 45 days.

Navy Region Midwest

No general or special courts-martial

Navy Region Northwest

■ At a general court-martial in Bremerton, Wash., an E-2 was tried for sexual assault and abusive sexual contact. On Jan. 9, a panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

■ At a general court-martial in Bremerton, an E-4 was tried for sexual assault and abusive sexual contact. On Jan. 15, the military judge returned a verdict of not guilty.

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, BU3 Viviana Ramos pleaded guilty to assault consummated by a battery and communicating a threat. On Jan. 16, the military judge sentenced her to be discharged with a bad conduct discharge, reduction in rank to paygrade E-2, a fine of $3,000 and confinement for six months.

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, AN Xavier Martinez pleaded guilty to unauthorized absence and drug abuse. On Jan. 17, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-1, forfeiture of $500 per month for three months and confinement for 28 days.

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, LS3 Nicholas A. Eleftheratos pleaded guilty to false official statement and larceny. On Jan. 27, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a bad conduct discharge, a fine of $400 and confinement for 90 days.

■ At a special court-martial in Bremerton, MM1 James L. Mercer pleaded guilty to violating a lawful order and assault consummated by a battery. On Jan. 27, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-4, a fine of $1,000 and confinement for 140 days.

Navy Region Southwest

■ At a general court-martial in San Diego, AME2 Douglas Schroeder pleaded guilty to assault consummated by a battery. On Jan. 30, the military judge sentenced him to a reprimand, forfeiture of $500 for one month, hard labor without confinement for 15 days and confinement for 15 days.

■ At a special court-martial in San Diego, ABFAN Christyl Roper pleaded guilty to absence without leave. On Jan. 9, the military judge sentenced her to reduction in rank to paygrade E-1 and confinement for 75 days.

■ At a special court-martial in San Diego, BMC Don Robinson pleaded guilty to willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer, failure to obey a general order and dishonorably failing to pay a debt. On Jan. 13, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-5 and confinement for 75 days.

■ At a special court-martial in San Diego, ND1 Michael Taylor pleaded guilty to failure to obey a general order, false official statements, larceny, forgery and wrongful dumping of hazardous material. On Jan. 24, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade E-5 and confinement for 22 days.

Navy Region Hawaii

■ At a general court-martial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, an E-3 was tried for sexual assault. On Jan. 10, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

■ At a general court-martial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Lt. j.g. Eutimio Zavala was tried for aggravated sexual assault, wrongful sexual contact, adultery and conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman. On Jan. 31, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty to adultery and conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman and sentenced him to a reprimand and forfeiture of $2,682 per month for a period of two months.

Navy Region Japan

■ At a general court-martial in Yokosuka, Japan, AOAN Jeffrey Sager was tried for abusive sexual contacts. On Jan. 29, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty to one specification of abusive sexual contact and sentenced him to be discharged with a bad conduct discharge and confinement for 24 months.

Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia

■ At a general court-martial in Naples, Italy, an E-5 was tried for sexual assault. On Jan. 8, the military judge returned a verdict of not guilty.

■ At a general court-martial in Rota, Spain, an E-5 was tried for sexual assault. On Jan. 30, a panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

■ At a special court-martial in Naples, SH3 Dennis J. Madriz was tried for violation of a lawful order. On Jan. 15, a panel of members returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to a reprimand.
