When Ellen Petin gave a homemade, M&M-themed pillowcase to her nephew who had just joined the Marines, he received a lot of ribbing from his fellow Marines. That is, until his fellow Marines wanted their own homemade pillowcases, the Press-Enterprise newspaper in Riverside, California, reports.
Four years and up to 300 pillowcases later, Petin, a former home economics teacher who lives in Corona, California, continues to spend about $10 and two hours making each pillowcase that she donates to Marines and others in the military, as well as to people with cancer and to orphanages.
