A commission reviewing all military compensation and retirement programs will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to hear from service members, retirees, veterans, family members and others.

The Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commissionís event will be 7-9 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, 4760 Lake Valley Drive in Fayetteville. Those who attend can address the commission, providing their comments about benefits in the military community. The commission is examining the range of benefits ó from basic pay, housing allowances and health care, to commissaries and retirement benefits ó for active-duty, Guard and Reserve, and retired members, and their families, as well as for veterans who didnít serve long enough to retire.

At earlier public hearings at the same location that day, commissioners will hear from panelists including local senior military commanders and senior enlisted advisers from 10 a.m. to noon; local military and veteran transition service organizations from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and representatives from local Defense Department schools and civilian schools.

The congressionally mandated, nine-member commission has held a number of public meetings in various locations as part of extensive research before making recommendations about the modernization of compensation and retirement programs, due to the president and Congress next February.

In response to the Pentagonís proposals for cuts to various benefits this year, some lawmakers have urged Pentagon officials to wait for the commissionís recommendations.

The commission is also conducting an online survey of troops and retirees about their benefits.
