ROCHESTER, N.H. — A World War II veteran from New Hampshire is getting his service medals just before Independence Day.

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter will present Norman Sanborn with six awards Thursday, including several combat medals and bars. Sanborn served aboard U.S. Merchant Marine ships from 1945-1946. According to Shea-Porterís office, he is active in the veteran community and often pushes others to inquire about their service medals but until recently didnít think to research his own.

The presentation will be Thursday morning in Rochester.
