A soldier will stand trial Oct. 14 on charges he made a false official statement and helped conceal a crime in the December death of Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Dmitry Chepusov in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Army Spec. Cody Kramer, 24, is the second service member referred to court-martial in connection with the killing of Chepusov, an American Forces Network Europe broadcaster.

Earlier, Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson referred murder and related charges against Staff Sgt. Sean Oliver.

Oliver was allegedly having an affair with victimís wife, who stood to receive a $400,000 insurance payout upon Chepusovís death.

The charges against Kramer Ė the accused killerís friend and coworker -- stop short of naming him as an accomplice in the death of Chepusov.

Army prosecutors in March had contended Kramer knew days in advance that Oliver planned to murder the sailor and later helped him to carry it out and cover it up, Stars and Stripes reported from Kramerís Article 32 hearing.

Kramerís defense argued the Air Force staff sergeant acted alone.

The soldier faces up to eight years in prison and a dishonorable discharge if convicted.

Oliver could receive up to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted at trial, set to begin Jan. 12.
