Career Advancement Accounts. In early 2010, the My Career Advancement Account program was abruptly halted because, defense officials said, an unusually large spike in applications threatened to overwhelm the system and drain the program’s funding. The program reopened in mid-March, but only for those already enrolled; at press time, new enrollments were still frozen.

The popular program offers military spouses up to $6,000 in tuition assistance to help spouses pursue education, training, licenses, certificates and degrees leading to portable careers that they can take with them when their military sponsors are reassigned.
