Guide to military-only travel discounts

Airline, bus, railroad, hotel and car rental companies all offer military discounts to active-duty members and their families with current military identification cards. Some discounts are as much as 50 percent off regular prices.

When making reservations, individuals should identify themselves as service members or family members of the military.

Discount fares are offered only to personnel paying for their own transportation. The fares often are not available during peak holiday travel. Also, hotel discounts apply only at selected hotels.

Several on-base commercial travel offices specialize in flight arrangements, discounts and other details. Serving government travelers, active-duty members and retirees, these specialists assist those going on temporary duty assignments or making permanent change-of-station moves. They also help with planning off-duty and vacation travel.
