What’s in it for you, as a military spouse, on Military Spouse Appreciation Day?
Your military store might have some treats, so it’s worth your while to check with your local exchanges.
Some examples we found:
Fort Bragg, N.C. —
At the North Post exchange, cake and refreshments will be served at 11 a.m. in the North Post Mall. But the exchange sale lasts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with specials on a variety of items, such as 15 percent off all women’s and men’s swimsuits; a hammock with a stand, for $19.97 regularly $39; and an additional 25 percent off all clearance clothing and shoes.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be a drawing for 10 tickets to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race in Charlotte, and 10 tickets to the NASCAR Nextel Pit Crew Challenge at Bobcats Arena.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Show Truck will be on display from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and there will be some Craftsman NASCAR giveaways.
Fort Hood, Texas —
If you’re more into makeup, jewelry, home décor and Thomas Kinkade art, you’ll want to be at the Clear Creek main store at Fort Hood, Texas. There will be price cuts on home décor, a jewelry trunk show with 50 percent off many of the pieces, and you can sign up for a free beauty day with a free consultation, makeover and samples.
A Thomas Kinkade “Heading Home Tour” will showcase a very limited collection of artwork signed by the artist especially for the military family.
In the front parking lot of the Clear Creek store, there will be a “motor vehicle safety day,” with demonstrations and information about keeping families safe.
At Fort Hood’s Warrior Way store, there will be a Sony demonstration for military spouses, and a motorcycle safety equipment display.
Andrews Air Force Base, Md. —
The base exchange will have cake, coffee, door prizes and a coupon good for a single item up to $150, in addition to a Starbucks coupon for one free 12-ounce coffee.
Commissaries —
The Defense Commissary Agency considers every day in the commissary “a tribute to military spouses and their service members in uniform,” said spokesman Kevin Robinson, so they don’t have any commissary system-wide promotions specifically geared for May 11.
“Often individual stores will mark the occasion in conjunction with their local military community,” he said.
But make a point to check out when your store is having its case lot sale this month, where you can get deals of up to 50 percent off regular prices. It might be this weekend. You can find out at www.commissaries.com.
