Stricter body-fat, appearance regs

According to the article [“Alarm sounds on 24/7 fitness,” March 23], only 15 active-duty officers have been assigned to the Corps’ Body Composition Program. I notice about 10 per day at my base who are fat as hell. In my unit, I can think of about 10 staff noncommissioned officers who are fat well beyond standards. However, only one was assigned to the program. On the flip side, if a junior Marine is even close they’re riding his ass. Rank has its privileges at my command.

Tough call: active duty or Reserve?

When it comes to being deployed overseas, is the Corps good about getting reservists up to where they need to be before they are sent? And what are some of the pros and cons of going Reserve over active duty?

When did you opt to retire — and why?

After 23½ years of service, I grew tired of getting screwed by officers. I busted my hump every day, but the ossifer took credit for my hard work. I took my skills, got out and got a great job.

I retired after 23 years because I couldn’t keep up with the physical demands of my job. I cannot ask those under me to perform a task if I can’t do it. It was just time for an old fart to get out.
