Fallujah video game
It’s a great idea to tell the story of such brave men. You don’t hear anybody saying: “Hey, don’t play that game about World War II. That’s disrespectful.” So what’s the problem with making this game? Even though it’s just a game, it is part of history. This is a way to educate about the first war my generation has been a part of.

I am not surprised that organization is upset about this game. They would have been opposed to anything promoting the war. In general, they trivialize what their loved ones do more than a video game could. This game will help to immortalize the brave service members who died there.

My feelings are mixed. I don’t know too much about this game, but I do have a tendency to not like games or movies dealing with modern conflicts — it’s too close to home. You can’t compare a concept game like this to a World War II game. While one is taken from history, our Iraq and Afghanistan wars are taking place now. If they put too much detail into it, it would be stomach-churning. On the other side, it might immortalize the actual people who fought and died in that conflict.

Ultimately everything we do becomes trivialized or profiteered in one way or another, so make the game, I say. Ninety-nine percent of the U.S. population can’t fathom what these guys went through in the first place, so why not broaden the public’s awareness by using the video game format as a medium and improving it to 98 percent?

Enough time has passed. I fought with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, in the first offensive in Fallujah and endured the same as the second. Imagine if the technology that we have now was around during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. How long do you think it would have taken to get a video game out for them?
