What ever happened to the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’?

I’ve never come across it anywhere other than in a classroom in grade school. Other than perhaps Little Johnny’s first civic/patriotic exercise, it is a vestige of a bygone era.

A call for clarity

I served as a scout dog handler in Vietnam. My dog, Husky, and I landed in country three days before the start of the Tet Offensive. We were assigned to several infantry rifle units and to 3rd Recon during our 13-month tour. We have been awarded the Navy Presidential Unit Citation and the Army PUC. In addition to the above awards, my paperwork reflects our participation with eight combat units awarded the PUC for actions that took place during the time we served with them. Marine Corps headquarters tells me we are not eligible to wear the PUC given to those units because our assignment to those commands was temporary. Might there be someone who can enlighten me regarding the above regulation, and whether any options are available to contest the decision?

Investing in today’s economy

I am wondering who all is investing these days — starting, continuing or stopping. Do you see this as a time to get out of the market, move to cash, or do you see it as a buying opportunity?

I advised my son, 18, to start just because he’s young enough to ride the wave and stands a good chance of doing well from it. For myself, I am watching the portfolio do a downslide.

As a military member with a stable income, I view it entirely differently. I am loving it. BUY BUY BUY. As long as it recovers before I retire, I could care less how low it goes. It just means I can buy more stock with the money I am investing.
