DON’T BABY MARINES

I worry that giving noncommissioned officers power over leave and liberty will result in the babying of Marines. As it is, my unit makes us do a five-paragraph order to go on leave, show a round-trip ticket if we are flying and complete a vehicle inspection checklist. I can’t wait to see how much more paperwork this will create.

COLA FOR ALL OR NO ONE

I can accept no “cost-of-living allowance” as long as the president, members of Congress and all federal workers don’t get a COLA either. What is fair for one group should be fair for all groups.

Apparently, retirees are the ones who have to sacrifice for the best interests of the nation.

Active-duty members, with all the raises in basic allowance for housing, overseas housing allowance, and overseas cost-of-living allowance, are becoming so spoiled it is ridiculous. Yet, I’m sure they will demand many more entitlements than we ever had.

VETS MUST HELP THEMSELVES, EACH OTHER

I encourage all veterans to join the American Legion, a strong advocate for veteran’s rights. Many of us volunteered so we shouldn’t develop a culture of victimhood. Also, the best veterans advocates are other vets. Volunteer at VA facilities. It helps heal both parties. All vets should work hard to educate themselves and get involved in government so this nation can be led by those who understand liberty, sacrifice, honor and respect.

IRAQIS IN MARPAT?

If they are wearing Marine cammies, it’s not their fault. They use whatever they’re issued. Personally, I don’t mind them using our M16A2, but MarPat is an icon and should be used only by Marines.
