Are you SHAVING AT O’dark hundred?
I grow facial hair fast so at 5:30 a.m., I have a shadow. Some sergeant said I should shave, but it doesn’t make any sense. If I shave before physical training, my face burns like high hell.

If you show up to PT looking like sasquatch because you grow hair like hippies grow weed, you might want to consider shaving.

You need to shave when you wake up no matter what. It is a safe bet no matter where you go in the corps.

GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE
I have been retired for more than 10 years. My wife and I are enrolled under Tricare Prime, and we have absolutely no complaints about the care we receive. We have been treated like we are on active duty. Tricare is a model for things that work well when properly managed.

We expect the government to provide social services including policemen, firemen and social workers. Why then are we so resistant to the government’s efforts to reform health care? We lag other nations with comparable levels of development. Our independent, do-it-ourselves attitude has prevented us from learning from other countries. If you don’t want the healthcare plan the government is proposing, don’t take it. Stick with your corrupt, stockholder-beholden private insurance.

BAH INJUSTICE
The whole goal of the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters Campaign was to give noncommissioned officers more room, but my NCOs live like sardines. The commandant and sergeant major of the Marine Corps grew the force without the infrastructure to match, and yet they deny NCOs their basic allowance for housing.

Between 2000 and 2003, I decided to live out in town without receiving BAH. I had to maintain a barracks room until we got a boot drop and they needed my room. Even though they didn’t have a room for me, they wouldn’t give me BAH because I decided to live off base before there were room shortages. Very hypocritical.

This has always been a problem for the Corps. I have been fighting for years to get my sergeants BAH, but I’m told the barracks aren’t full enough. At the same time, they say each sergeant should get their own room, but have two or even three living together.
