FAKERS HAVE IT EASY
It is entirely too easy to ingratiate oneself into organizations for retired military personnel. With small budgets and few means to do much in the way of basic background checks, Veterans of Foreign Wars posts don’t have many options for vetting their members. Also, discharge papers and separation documents are easily forged.

TERRORIST TRIALS DRAW FIRE
[Holding trials for the 9/11 suspects in New York] may be the move that costs Obama his re-election. I have a problem seeing how anyone but the most die-hard supporters would be able to stand putting them on trial in New York.
— Variable Wind
We didn’t do this for the Japanese or the Germans after World War II, so why do it now?
— Floridaboy
We’ll give them a good trial, too, so that when they are found guilty, no one can say that they were railroaded.

ALLEGED PRISONER ABUSE
I hope these brave SEALs are cleared of charges and given the medals they deserve for a job well done [“SEALs allegedly punch detainee, face charges,” Dec. 7]. The suspect in their custody complained about a bloody lip? I’m stunned and very saddened that charges have been filed.
— ProudNavyMom
I remember seeing the pictures of the Blackwater guys being burned and dragged through the streets of Iraq. I am proud that these SEALs did their duty and captured the person allegedly responsible for that attack and only gave him a bloody lip.

DAMAGEd FLIGHT DECKS
Regarding “Osprey exhaust damaging flight decks,” Nov. 30:
Carbon fiber is known for its light weight, strength and reliability while handling stress and heat. I wonder if they could layer the deck with it? Carbon fiber is expensive, but would more than pay for itself over the life of the ship.

MOM REFUSES TO DEPLOY
Cry me a river [“Mother jailed after skipping deployment,” Dec. 7]. If you aren’t fit to deploy, what’s the use of you being in the military?
— Gold_Reaper
I would question where the father was and why he wasn’t given the opportunity to take temporary custody while the mother deployed?
— MPA
Start a boarding school for children of single military parents. The number of single military parents probably won’t shrink in the future. If a single parent wants to serve in the military, but doesn’t have a relative or friend to care for his or her children while he or she is on deployment, then a boarding school might be the best option.
