Carey in talks for ‘Price is Right’ job

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Drew Carey is mulling one CBS game show while preparing to host another.

While promoting his upcoming “Power of 10,” a survey-based game show due Aug. 7, the comedian was asked about the network’s interest in him as a replacement for retired “Price is Right” host Bob Barker, sparked by the pilot episode of “Power.”

“I would really enjoy it,” Carey said, adding that he’s in “negotiations” for the job. “I wouldn’t consider it to be work. All they keep doing is giving away prizes, and it’s not even my money.”

After the millions he made off his former ABC sitcom, “I don’t want to do anything just for the money; it has to be fun.”

In “Power,” contestants must predict, within specified ranges, how the public responds to poll questions, to win up to $10 million. For example: Just 20 percent know their state governor’s name, even less if you exclude California; and 69 percent say they’d call the police if they saw a Mexican immigrant illegally crossing the border. “It shakes up a lot of your perceptions,” Carey said.

They’ll never learn

“Survivor” goes to exotic (and humid) China this fall, but some of the CBS reality series’ castaways just never get smart.

“Fifteen (seasons) in, and they still don’t know how to make fire,” executive producer Mark Burnett said. “They still say they’re going to stay under the wire, and before you know it, they’re ordering people around — ‘You get the water. You get the firewood.’ It’s amazing.”
