Corps exceeds January recruiting goals
Posted : Monday Feb 12, 2007 16:17:01 EST
The Marine Corps’ recruiting effort exceeded its active-duty and Reserve accession goals during January, according to a Feb. 12 Defense Department release.
The service met 108 percent of its active-duty goal of 3,162 enlistees, shipping 3,403 Marine hopefuls to its recruit depots in San Diego and Parris Island, S.C., according to the release.
The Corps also shipped 829 reservists to basic training during January, 18 more than the 811 it was aiming for that month, the release said.
The Marine Corps increased the number of recruiters on the street by 200 last month, officials said.
Recruiting officials said during a Feb. 2 background briefing at the Pentagon that the Corps’ annual recruiting mission of about 30,000 each year was raised by 1,200 to meet a plan to increase its active-duty end strength of 180,000 by 5,000 each year through recruiting and retention until it reaches 202,000 Marines.
