Tattoo documenting window closes
Posted : Tuesday Jul 3, 2007 10:51:41 EDT
The amnesty window closed July 1 for Marines who’ve had the last four months to get grandfathered under the Corps’ new policy banning tattoo sleeves by having existing ink documented, according to the Corps-wide message that announced the policy changes in March.
Starting July 2, any Marine who shows up to work with an undocumented tattoo sleeve faces the possibility of prosecution under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
“A very large tattoo, or a collection of smaller tattoos, that covers or almost covers a person’s entire arm or leg” is a sleeve tattoo under the policy, which also bans half and quarter sleeves “visible to the eye when wearing standard [physical training] gear.”
The Corps’ policy required each Marine who got a sleeve tattoo before they were banned to document their ink in a dated Page 11 entry with photographs and details about tattoo measurements and locations.
