More than 1,000 Marines have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a grim milestone reached Sept. 6 with the death of four Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based Marines, according to Defense Department statistics.

Their names were announced Monday. Since then, the Pentagon has announced the deaths of four more Marines, bringing the Corps’ total death toll for the two wars to 1,006 as of Thursday morning.
The four others are Lance Cpl. Lance M. Clark, 21, of Cookeville, Tenn.; Cpl. Travis M. Woods, 21, of Redding, Calif.; Cpl. Carlos E. Gil Orozco, 23, of San Jose, Calif.; and Lance Cpl. Jon T. Hicks Jr., 20, of Atco, N.J.
