The Marine Corps has released its monthly cutting scores, which help determine who will be promoted in March. To get promoted, a Marine’s individual composite score must meet or exceed the cutting score.

Cutting scores are published each month by Marine Corps headquarters in Washington.

The following lists identify regular corporal and sergeant promotions for March.

Computing scores

To compute your composite score, follow the instructions in the table below. The most points you can earn for college courses and Marine Corps Institute courses combined is 100. Any combination of education points totaling 100 is allowed. Once you have added your total, check the cutting score for your military occupational specialty. If your composite score meets or exceeds the cutting score, congratulations. If you do not meet the cutting score, check with your career planner to see what you can do to boost that score.

* Line 1 — Rifle score (from conversion chart)

* Line 2 — PFT score (from conversion chart)

* Line 3 — Subtotal (add lines 1 and 2)

* Line 4 — GMP average (line 3 divided by 2)

* Line 5 — GMP score from Line 4 x 100

* Line 6 — Average proficiency marks x 100

* Line 7 — Average conduct marks x 100

* Line 8 — Time in grade (months) x 5

* Line 9 — Time in service (months) x 2

* Line 10 — DI/Recruiters/MSG/Bonus x 1

* Line 11 — MCI x 15 and college courses x 10

* Line 12 — Command recruiting bonus x 1

* Line 13 — Total composite score (add lines 5-12)
