Casey: Army reviewing complaints over bullets
Posted : Thursday May 29, 2008 17:42:36 EDT
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Army’s highest-ranking officer says the military is reviewing the complaints of soldiers who say their standard ammunition isn’t powerful enough.
But Gen. George W. Casey Jr. said Thursday it’s too soon to say whether the Pentagon will make a switch.
Casey’s comments to reporters came during an appearance in Huntsville, Ala.
Interviews by the Associated Press found complaints over the military’s M855 rifle rounds. Soldiers said they are not powerful enough for the close-in fighting currently being waged in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Casey said the Army must adapt as enemies adapt. He said the military will quickly evaluate its current ammunition and decide how to proceed, but it is premature to say whether a change will be made.
