Former E-6 to pay $11K to recruit sex accuser
Posted : Thursday May 15, 2008 12:53:26 EDT
UKIAH, Calif. — A former Marine has agreed to pay $11,000 to a woman who accused him of coercing her into sex at a recruiting station.
The settlement concludes the last of three federal lawsuits filed in connection with misconduct at the Ukiah recruiting office.
The woman, then 17, accused former Staff Sgt. Joseph Dunzweiler of telling her that she had to have sex with him if she wanted to join the Marines.
Dunzweiler, who was acquitted of that charge during his court-martial, did not admit guilt as part of the settlement reached Monday.
In March, another former Marine, Brian Fukushima, was ordered to pay $50,000 to another woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her during an overnight party at the Ukiah office. Last year, the Marines agreed to pay the women $200,000.
Dunzweiler and Fukushima both were demoted after court-martial proceedings but acquitted of the most serious charges.
