Third Marine in 12 days killed on motorcycle
Posted : Monday Jun 2, 2008 12:51:30 EDT
The Corps suffered its third motorcycle-related fatality in 12 days Wednesday when a lance corporal was thrown from his bike and killed in North Carolina.
Lance Cpl. Cameron Clark, 19, died shortly after 9 p.m. in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., a spokesman with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said. Clark was with a small group of people when he was leaving the parking lot of a local billiards hall.
“He was doing a burnout,” said Sgt. Adam Bondarek with the police department’s detective division. “The bike took off on him and threw him off.”
Clark’s Suzuki traveled 161 feet and hit a curb, throwing Clark into a pole before it traveled another 99 feet and slammed into a Sherwin-Williams paint supply store, according to the police report. He was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C., and later died.
A short narrative on the Naval Safety Center’s Web site said Clark was on temporary additional duty at a recruiting sub-station in Rocky Mount, N.C.
