Marine death in Iraq under investigation

The non-hostile death of a lance corporal in Iraq on Sunday remains under investigation, Defense Department officials said Thursday.
Lance Cpl. Jeffery S. Stevenson, 20, of Newton, N.J., died in Anbar, Iraq, military officials said. He was assigned to the Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group.
Additional details were not immediately available, but The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., reported that Stevenson’s family said the military was scheduled to perform an autopsy on Tuesday.
Stevenson’s brother, Senior Airman Robert L. Stevenson, 23, told the Star-Ledger on Thursday that the investigation was continuing, according to the newspaper’s Web site. A funeral was planned for Saturday.
