The 2,200-member 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit is set to deploy from Camp Lejeune, N.C., later this month on a deployment across the Atlantic Ocean with the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group, Marine officials said Thursday.

Marines and sailors will board the amphibious assault ship Iwo Jima, the dock landing ship Carter Hall and one of the Navy’s newest ships, the amphibious transport dock San Antonio, officials said in a statement.

The MEU has been training six months for deployment. Its units include Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines; Combat Logistics Battalion 26; and Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 264.
