Posted : Monday Sep 29, 2008 7:31:14 EDT
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Firefighters are making progress against two spot fires burning at Camp Pendleton in northern San Diego County.
A base spokesman says one fire blackened several hundred acres of brush and grass in a training area. It is not yet contained, though it is moving toward canyons and away from structures.
Another fire burned 200 acres near a station that is home to the 1st Marine Division. It is fully contained.
No injuries or damages are reported.
The fire started just before 1 p.m. Thursday off Roblar Road, near the center of the base, said Bill Gick, Pendleton’s fire inspector. Its smoke column could be seen for miles.
Gick said he did not know what started the fire.
