Marines share interrogation tactics with Nepal
Posted : Tuesday Sep 16, 2008 11:00:29 EDT
A team of 75 Nepalese soldiers and seven Okinawa-based Marines met in Kathmandu on Sept. 1-13 for a subject-matter expert exchange.
This SMEE is the second of its kind in the past two years.
During the exercise, Nepalese army investigators and military police demonstrated for the Marines how they conduct investigations and use martial arts.
In turn, the Marines showed their counterparts shortcuts for handling fingerprints and how Marines conduct interrogations as well as close-quarter battle tactics, Marine Corps martial arts and techniques for observing the enemy.
Public affairs Marines were briefed on the history of Nepal’s army, along with political issues facing the country, including its recent election.
The Nepalese discussed the importance of public relations and its effect on national and international relations.
The public affairs exchange also involved scenario-based on-camera interviews and writing press releases, each of which were critiqued in a group setting.
For now, the annual SMEE involves military police and public affairs, but it may expand to include more specialties.
