II MEF command element leaving for Iraq

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — More than 200 North Carolina-based Marines and sailors are leaving for Iraq on Wednesday.
The command element of II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, is deploying to Iraq’s Anbar province. II MEF Marines will replace Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based I MEF as Multi-National Force-West, according to a II MEF release.
The forward command, headed by Maj. Gen. Richard Tryon, will include Regimental Combat Team 6 and RCT-8, a logistics combat element comprising Marines from 2nd Marine Logistics Group, and an aviation combat element from 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
