JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A Marine Corps Reserve unit in northeast Tennessee heads out this week for a deployment to Iraq.

Lt. Col. James Watson of the Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, said although the military has plans to reduce the number of troops in Iraq, the infantry company is still needed to provide security.

The Kingsport Times-News said about 130 soldiers will leave Thursday from the Gray Armed Services Reserve Center for training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., before their deployment.

The last time the company deployed was in 2004.
