LOS ANGELES — Flags will be flown at half-staff at the state capitol in honor of a California National Guardsman who was killed in Afghanistan.

A statement Tuesday from the governor’s office said Maj. Rocco M. Barnes, 50, died Thursday as a result of injuries suffered during a vehicle rollover accident.

Barnes was a member of the Tactical Command Post, 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard. He was assigned as an individual augmentee to the 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said “Barnes’ service will forever be remembered.”
