DoD IDs 2 Marines killed in Afghanistan

Two North Carolina-based Marines killed Saturday in Afghanistan’s Helmand province have been identified.
Master Sgt. Jerome D. Hatfield, 36, of Axton, Va., and Lance Cpl. Pedro A. Barbozaflores, 27, of Glendale, Calif., died in a bomb blast, according to various media reports.
The Marines were assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade at Camp Lejeune. Both deployed to Afghanistan in June, according to a Marine news release.
Hatfield, a former drill instructor, was the operations chief for Delta Company, 2nd LAR. He joined the Corps in June 1991 and served a tour in Iraq in 2006 and again in 2008, according to the release. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Barbozaflores was a light armored vehicle crewman who joined the Corps in March 2008.
No other information was immediately available.
