2 Marines to stand trial for murder charges
Posted : Sunday Oct 18, 2009 10:40:20 EDT
VISTA, Calif. — Two Camp Pendleton Marines have been ordered to stand trial on murder charges in the death of an Oceanside business owner.
A judge made the decision Thursday following a daylong preliminary hearing in Vista Superior Court.
Raphael Ramey and Xavier Adams are charged in the August death of 23-year-old Charles Evan Williams.
Prosecutors say Williams was stabbed and beaten to death in a dispute over a car sale.
In a videotaped statement played in court, Ramey told detectives he was upset with Williams because he had paid $12,500 for a 1970 Chevrolet Impala in June and it still wasn’t ready.
Ramey and Adams also face special circumstances which make them eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.
