OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The Marine Corps has identified a Marine who died Wednesday from injuries sustained after an improvised explosive device exploded in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Cody R. Stanley, 21, was on a dismounted patrol in Helmand province when he was killed, 2nd Lt. Joshua Benson, a spokesman at Camp Pendleton, said in a statement.
Stanley was a rifleman from Caldwell, Texas, and served with Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, said Benson. The battalion is based at Marine Air-Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Stanley enlisted on Oct. 16, 2006, and his military awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
The 3rd battalion left Twentynine Palms in late September and early October for its deployment in Afghanistan.
