COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio Marine Reserve unit that took heavy losses in Iraq will be getting ready for its first large-scale deployment in five years.
A spokesman for the Marine Forces Reserve says Columbus-based Lima Company, a branch of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, will leave in coming months on a yearlong assignment that could include time in Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.
Lima Company was devastated by attacks in Iraq in 2005, losing nine Marines in one roadside bombing. The unit lost a total of 22 Marines and one Navy corpsman while in Iraq.
The story of Lima Company was told in an A&E Television Network documentary and in life-size paintings displayed for a time at the Ohio Statehouse.
