A North Carolina-based Marine was killed in Afghanistan while supporting combat operations, the Defense Department announced Friday.
Lance Cpl. Garrett W. Gamble, 20, of Sugarland, Texas, died Thursday in Helmand province where Marine forces continue their efforts to secure Marjah, a former Taliban stronghold. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, out of Camp Lejeune.
